If your best Sunday is part market, part quiet water, make Long Creek Nature Preserve the calm stop after European Village. It gives you an easy transition from local food, gifts, and market energy into boardwalk trails, estuary views, bird watching, and a slower waterfront pace.
Start with the Sunday market
Begin at the Palm Coast Farmers Market at European Village. The regular market runs Every Sunday, 11 AM to 3 PM at 101 Palm Harbor Pkwy, Palm Coast, FL 32137. Walk the full vendor lineup first, then circle back for snacks, drinks, produce, gifts, or take-home items.
If you want to know who is worth finding before you leave home, check the market business directory. If you want the short reminder before Sunday, join the market updates list.
Pack for a quiet preserve stop
Long Creek is not a big, loud park day. It is a better fit for a market snack, a short walk, a camera, binoculars, fishing gear, or a careful paddle plan. Bring water, sunscreen, shoes that can handle shell paths and boardwalks, and anything you need for heat, bugs, or changing weather.
If you are bringing food from the market, keep it simple and pack out anything you bring in. A preserve stop works best when the plan is light: a walk, a pause, a few photos, and a little time by the water.
Head to Long Creek Nature Preserve
From European Village at 101 Palm Harbor Pkwy, plan on about a 6-minute drive to Long Creek Nature Preserve at 1050 Palm Harbor Parkway, Palm Coast, FL 32137, depending on traffic and parking. The city lists hours as Monday through Sunday, 7 AM to 7 PM.
Long Creek is a nine-acre park between Long Creek and College Waterway. The city lists amenities including fishing, an elevated boardwalk, a floating boat dock, kayaking and canoeing, parking, and trail access. The park provides fishing, non-motorized boating access, and hard-packed shell and raised boardwalk walking trails.
Use the improved trails and seating areas
The city improvement page says work reached substantial completion in May 2025, with new trails, a boardwalk walking path, and seating areas positioned for scenic views. Earlier project notes describe expanded shell walking paths, new boardwalk elements, overlooks along the water, and shaded gathering areas.
That turns Long Creek into an easy "living classroom" stop after the market. You can walk slowly, pause at the overlooks, use the seating areas, and let kids or visitors notice the water, oyster beds, birds, and shifting marsh edges without needing a long itinerary.
Watch the water and wildlife
The City of Palm Coast describes Long Creek as a unique estuary system, known as the ocean's nursery because of the marine life that starts there. Visitors may see Florida's natural beauty, majestic birds, oyster beds, leaping mullet, and more.
For a relaxed visit, bring binoculars and treat the preserve like a slow observation walk. Egrets, herons, shoreline activity, and movement along the water are the point here. This is the post-market stop for lowering the volume.
Check kayak access before you bring gear
Long Creek can be a beautiful place for kayaking, paddleboarding, and canoeing, and the city notes that paddling markers help guide the route from Long Creek Nature Preserve toward the Intracoastal Waterway and beyond.
There is one important status note: the official Long Creek page says the east side kayak launch and dock closed as of March 24, 2025 due to damage, with no estimated repair completion date listed. The city directs residents to other launch options until further notice, including the Canal Side Launch at Long Creek Nature Preserve. If paddling is the main reason you are going, check the official Long Creek Nature Preserve page before loading gear.
Notice the history beneath the landscape
Long Creek is also a local history stop. The city notes that the property is a major archaeological resource and home to the Hernandez Landing Site, dating back to the early 1800s Plantation Period in Florida. The six-mile route from Long Creek to Bing's Landing closely follows 19th-century shipping routes connected to that site.
That gives the preserve another layer beyond the boardwalk. You are not just looking at water and trees. You are standing near one of the early commerce points in the county's story.
A simple Sunday plan
- 11:00 AM: Arrive at the market, walk the full vendor lineup, and choose snacks, drinks, or take-home goods.
- 11:45 AM: Buy market finds and anything picnic-friendly before the day gets too hot.
- 12:30 PM: Head toward Long Creek Nature Preserve and keep the plan flexible.
- 1:00 PM: Walk the shell and boardwalk trails, pause at seating areas, and look for birds, oyster beds, and fish activity.
- 2:00 PM: If water access is part of your plan, confirm the current kayak launch status first and use only open launch areas.
